FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The differences between STA and MTA are:

  • Length of stay: STA is for up to 28 days, MTA for up to 90 days. You can choose to take all your allocated funding days in one stay or break them up over multiple stays, the choice is yours
  • Reason for stay: STA is more flexible for various reasons, including respite and trying new living arrangements. MTA is primarily for temporary relocation while permanent housing is being prepared. For instance, if you have been discharged from hospital and your permanent residency needs modifications made before you can return home
  • Type of accommodation: Both cover similar settings, but MTA may also include rental properties and supported living environments

Your NDIS plan will specify if you have been approved for STA or MTA. You do not need to be approved for STA if you have MTA approval and vice versa. You only need approval for the type of accommodation you want to access.

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA):

While MTA offers flexibility, stays are typically capped at 90 days. This is because it’s designed as a temporary housing solution while you await a more permanent living arrangement. However, if you have unforeseen circumstances that require a longer stay, you can request an extension from the NDIS. Be prepared to provide documentation explaining the reason for the extension and any potential impact on your transition to your permanent housing.

Short Term Accommodation (STA):

STA offers a shorter stay window, typically 28 days. This is ideal for situations like temporary breaks from your usual living environment or short-term support needs. The good news is you have flexibility within that timeframe. You can use all your allocated days at once for a longer stay or spread them out across multiple visits, depending on your needs.

One-bedroom apartments: These provide a private space with a bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and kitchenette for a more independent living experience.

Studio apartments: Our studios offer a cozy and functional living space with a combined bedroom and living area, along with a private bathroom and kitchenette.

For personal care needs, due to insurance requirements, you’ll be supported by our qualified Myxa disability support workers. This ensures we can deliver the highest standard of care and meet all necessary safety protocols.
However, for other support services such as community access or assistance with household tasks, you have more flexibility. You’re welcome to choose a disability support worker you’re familiar with, as long as they are registered and qualified to provide the specific services you require.

We’re happy to discuss your individual needs and help you navigate these options during your stay.

We appreciate as much notice as possible when booking your stay with us. This allows us to ensure we have the accommodation type and support services available to best meet your needs.

However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. In these cases, we will do our best to accommodate emergency bookings for MTA/STA stays, depending on availability.

Our cancellation policy for accommodation follows the guidelines set out by the NDIS. Here’s a breakdown:

  • More than 14 days’ notice: No cancellation fees are applied
  • Between 7 and 14 days’ notice: Up to 50% of the total cost of your stay may be charged
  • Less than 7 days’ notice or no-show: You may be charged the full cost of your stay

Please note: These are general guidelines, and specific circumstances may be considered. We recommend contacting us directly to discuss your situation and explore any potential options.

If you require long-term accommodation after your stay, we can often assist you in finding suitable options such as SIL or SDA. This will depend on the NDIS funding you have available. We will work with you to find an appropriate NDIS housing solution to meet your needs.

For Short-Term Accommodation (STA):
Yes, meals are typically included as part of the STA funding under the NDIS. This is because STA is designed to provide a complete package of support, including accommodation, personal care, and meals.

For Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA):

No, meals are not typically included as part of the MTA funding under the NDIS. MTA funding is primarily intended to cover the cost of the accommodation itself. You would generally need to budget for your own meals or explore other funding options within your NDIS plan to cover food costs.

The duration of your stay can vary based your needs. Short-term accommodation is funded through your NDIS plan and can provide up to 28 days per year. Medium-term accommodation allows you to stay away from your usual home for up to 90 days per year.
