FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Supported Independent Living (SIL):

SIL is providing support services to assist individuals to live independently regardless of whether it’s shared or their own independent living arrangement. SIL Services can include assistance with cooking, cleaning, personal care, medication management, budgeting and social interaction. The funding for SIL falls under core supports in your NDIS plan and is determined by your individual support requirements.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA):

SDA is providing specialised housing tailored to meet the unique support needs of individuals with disabilities. The building must have specific design features and modifications to cater to the participant’s individual needs such as wider doorways, stepless showers, safety windows, adjustable bench tops, infrastructure for a ceiling hoist or life support systems depending on the SDA category.

We will provide furniture and or white goods for common areas such as kitchen, dining room, living room and laundry. It is the participant’s responsibility to furnish their own bedroom, this allows for personalisation and creating a sense of ownership within their personal rooms. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own furniture if you prefer, we understand you may have the perfect spot in mind for that much loved vintage chair you own.

Myxa can establish new SIL properties that meet individual needs based on location and ratios. Our team will work with you to ensure that you are matched with a property, where you want to live and with housemates that share similar goals to you, so you can feel connected to your community. The best way to view our current vacancies is to check Our Homes section of our website, where you can see available properties. If you have specific requirements for a SIL property, please reach out to our team on 1300 006 992.

In general, participants are responsible for covering costs related to their daily living and personal needs. These may include:

  • Groceries
  • Rent, board or lodging costs
  • Utilities: Gas, electricity, water, telephone and internet
  • Vehicle costs: Fuel, insurance and maintenance
  • Clothing and personal care items
  • Recreation: Entertainment, hobbies, or personal electronics

Myxa is responsible for arranging building insurance for all our SDA properties. All participants that reside in Myxa properties are recommended to arrange contents insurance to cover the loss or damage of their personal possessions such as clothes, books, electrical equipment and cosmetics. Don’t forget to include cover for your specific treasures like cassettes of 80’s and 90’s rock bands, antiques and family heirlooms.

Myxa welcomes responsible pet ownership and considers pet applications on a case-by-case basis. Participants must demonstrate their ability to provide all essential pet care independently, without relying on a Disability Support Worker. This includes, but is not limited to, feeding, walking, grooming, and of course, providing a loving environment.

Additionally, to ensure a harmonious living environment, consent of all housemates within the supported living arrangement is required. This ensures everyone feels comfortable and respects the needs of both the participant and the pet.

Finally, all pets must comply with any body corporate by-laws that may exist in the residence.

Finding your ideal housemate is an in-depth process at Myxa. We prioritise compatibility and collaboration, matching you with individuals who share similar interests and personalities. This involves collaboration with your support coordinator to understand your needs and preferences. The final step is a key one! We arrange a meet-and-greet at the property, allowing you to get to know each other in a relaxed environment. This ensures a comfortable fit for everyone before any commitment is made.

We understand that finding the right fit in a home is important. Myxa offers a variety of supported living accommodation options throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Our dedicated team will do their best to help you find a suitable property that aligns with your individual needs, location preferences, and desired level of support. We’ll also connect you with housemates who share similar goals, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

We also recognise that our options may not always be the best fit for everyone’s needs, therefore if we can’t accommodate what you are looking for, we will recommend you to a provider who can.
