My career in community services has spanned over two decades, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. I’ve had the privilege of working in various roles, from direct support work to house leader and individual support service manager. Each experience has provided valuable insights and equipped me with the skills to excel in my support role as a SIL Manager at Myxa.
There is a beautiful variety to my role, and that’s what keeps things interesting! Supporting and motivating my team is a top priority. This is closely followed by regular communication and connection with participants and their support network.
There are many things to love about Myxa. Seeing our participants thrive and staff members flourish is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, the supportive and collaborative work culture makes Myxa a special place to work.
One of the most heartwarming experiences involved a participant who was struggling to connect with their housemates. Through creative problem-solving and collaboration with the participant’s support team, we implemented strategies to encourage shared activities and build rapport. Witnessing the positive transformation in the house dynamics and the participant’s sense of belonging was incredibly fulfilling.
