Tell us about your professional career journey with Myxa?
While I haven’t been with Myxa for the entirety of my career, it’s definitely where I found my true calling. My journey actually began in child protection, which instilled in me a deep passion for supporting vulnerable individuals. Transitioning to disability support felt like a natural progression, allowing me to focus on empowering people to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.
My experience at Myxa has been incredibly rewarding. The organisation’s commitment to participant-centered care aligns perfectly with my values. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my skills as a leader and make a real difference in the lives of those we support.
Can you walk us through a typical day as a SIL Manager?
Every day brings new challenges and opportunities, but some common threads run through my role:
- Supporting My Team: The success of our participants hinges on the well-being and dedication of our staff. I prioritise checking in with my team, addressing any concerns they have, and ensuring they have the resources and support they need to excel.
- Participant Focus: Regular communication and check-ins with participants are crucial. This allows me to monitor their well-being, ensure their NDIS plans are being met, and address any concerns that may arise.
- Collaboration is Key: Effective support requires a collaborative approach. I work closely with allied health teams, families, and other stakeholders to ensure participants receive a holistic and comprehensive service.
- Continuous Improvement: Data analysis and report reviews are essential for identifying areas where we can improve. Developing and implementing strategies to enhance the quality of our services is an ongoing process.
What do you love about working at Myxa?
There are several things that make Myxa a special place to work. First and foremost, the unwavering focus on empowering participants is truly inspiring. Seeing them achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives is incredibly rewarding. Secondly, the supportive and collaborative work environment fosters a sense of community. We have a fantastic team, and everyone is dedicated to making a positive impact.
Can you share a specific instance where your work made a positive impact on Myxa Care or a participant?
Its hard to choose just one, as each participant has their own journey and each is as special as the next, but my most recent moment that my support to the team surrounding a participant to improve their overall personal hygiene and home cleanliness. To see that this has had a positive effect on how they now see themself and the standard that they want for themself, and how staff can support them to maintain this.
This is where my passion for disability is driven from. The long-term impact that we have on each of our participants.
