How long have you been in the support work field, and what drew you to this career path?
I’ve been a support worker for about six years now. When I was a teenager, I was interested in a career path of counselling because I found it easy to talk and connect with people. While helping my dad, a chiropractor, with massages, I noticed that people naturally opened up to me while I was giving them treatment. This experience really sparked my passion for connecting with others and supporting them through their challenges.
I have also done volunteering with Mind Australia on their Carer Support line, which I found very fulfilling. It was able to help people access essential resources and support groups, which is such a crucial part of navigating life’s challenges.
Disability Support Work suits my nature, I can really feel and see the difference my support is making in someone’s life, plus I have got to meet some really great people.
You’ve been with Myxa for six months now. What made you choose us?
I was immediately impressed by Myxa’s professionalism and their dedication to their employees’ professional development. The positive culture here is also a big plus. I appreciate the recognition and praise I receive from supervisors and management. It’s not something I’m used to, but it definitely motivates me to keep doing my best.
You were recently recognised through Myxa’s Employee of the Month award. Can you tell us about how that made you feel?
Being recognised as Myxa’s Employee of the Month was an incredible honour. The award is a testament to the company’s commitment to recognising and appreciating its employees’ hard work and dedication. It felt amazing to know that my efforts in providing the best possible support to our participants were valued and acknowledged. The real reward was the sense of accomplishment and the positive feedback from my colleagues and supervisors.
What’s your experience been like working at Myxa Manor?
I primarily work at Myxa Manor, and it’s been a great experience so far. Coming from SRS, where I typically worked with a higher ratio of participants (1:6), I really value the opportunity to provide more individualised support in a 1:1 setting at Myxa. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact through my work at Myxa. I’m excited to continue learning and growing in this role, and I’m proud to be part of such a supportive and dedicated team.
