Myxa is fortunate to have a dedicated team working behind the scenes to ensure our participants and staff have everything they need. Today, we chat with Lisa, Myxa’s SIL Manager and Authorised Program Officer.
I was hired by Myxa in 2023 and started as a House Manager for a complex program. In December 2023, I transitioned into the SIL team, and by January 2024, I became an APO (Authorised Program Officer) for Myxa. I currently hold the dual role of SIL Manager and APO.
My day is usually a mix of providing support to House Supervisors, liaising with families and allied health professionals, visiting sites and managing incidents.
Another important part of the role involves ensuring compliance and reporting on restrictive practises. Every day is different, but the focus is always on supporting participants and our team.
The best thing about working at Myxa is that everyone is heard. Myxa encourages staff to speak up, raise concerns, try new ideas and implement change. The organisation genuinely wants the best for every participant, and that makes it a great place to work.
I believe that everything i do contributes to something positive for participants. One thing that stands out is facilitating monthly house meetings with residents. These meetings give residents a safe space to feel heard, raise concerns and manage conflicts. They’ve even given me permission to share a photo from one of the meetings. The image shows the residents preparing morning tea, read the previous minutes and help run the meetings themselves. It’s a great example of empowerment and collaboration.
