FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) are two distinct types of NDIS supports that often work together but fund different things.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds the support services people receive to help with daily living tasks. This includes assistance with personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication, budgeting, social interaction, and community access. SIL funding is part of the Core – Daily Living budget and is separate from the home itself.

For example, a participant may live in a Myxa-managed home or their own residence and receive SIL support for help with cooking, personal care, and daily routines.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funds the housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA dwellings are purpose-built or modified to provide accessibility and safety features such as ceiling hoists, widened doorways, accessible bathrooms, or assistive technology. SDA funding only covers the cost of the housing, while SIL (or other support funding) covers the staff support provided within the home.

For example, a participant may live in an SDA property that includes full accessibility features and receive separate SIL funding for daily support provided by the Myxa team.

Together, SDA and SIL create a coordinated living arrangement where the home and the supports are managed separately but work in partnership to deliver safe, comfortable, and person-centred living environments.

When Myxa is the SIL provider, our homes are fully furnished with essential furniture and white goods to ensure a comfortable and safe living environment.

We encourage participants to personalise their own rooms and shared spaces with items or décor that reflect their preferences and sense of home. Where possible, our team will support you to make these choices so that your environment feels both familiar and empowering.

If you are moving into a property arranged independently, we can discuss what furniture or equipment is already available and what may need to be provided before supports commence.

Myxa has a dedicated Property and Facilities team that works across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, including Geelong, Bendigo, and Wonthaggi.

We partner with a network of SDA providers, developers, and real estate agents, giving us access to a broad range of properties and design categories that meet participant needs and NDIS housing standards.

While availability can vary depending on your preferred location and the specific SDA design category required, we can work with our partners to explore suitable options or collaborate with builders to assess what may be possible.

Our goal is to provide access to safe, comfortable, and well-matched homes that align with your NDIS plan and personal goals.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides ongoing assistance for people with disabilities who live in shared or individual homes managed by Myxa.

Our SIL services help participants build independence and achieve their personal goals through consistent, high-quality daily support. This may include assistance with personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, community access, and developing independent living skills.

Each participant has a comprehensive Support Plan that outlines their goals, routines, health requirements, and behavioural strategies, ensuring all support needs are addressed in a coordinated and consistent way.

Every Myxa home operates within our structured Myxa Framework, providing clear leadership, trained staff, and 24-hour oversight. We support individuals with both standard and high-intensity needs, delivering safe, respectful, and empowering environments that promote stability, wellbeing, and inclusion

Yes. Myxa can provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) services in your own home or a property you have arranged, as long as it meets the requirements for safety and suitability.

Once your NDIS plan includes SIL funding, our team can deliver daily support based on your individual goals and approved funding level. This may include assistance with personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, and community participation.

If you already have housing in place, we can work with you, your Support Coordinator, and other members of your care team to ensure a smooth transition and consistent delivery of supports.
