What is your career journey and how has it led to join Myxa?
I have had a really charmed working life where I have had the good fortune of moving in-between revision of disability services, aged care services and mental health services over the last 20 years, probably closer to 25 years, in a host of different roles, often program management roles, general and executive management roles, helping to establish and operate effective programs to help provide support for those cohorts of peoples.
So that’s what’s brought me to Myxa
I had the opportunity to take on a role with the organisation and it jumped out to me as a fantastic opportunity.
Describe a typical day in your role
It’s still relatively early days, I think I am 4 months in, and every day is different but that’s not unfamiliar for me, it comes with the territory a little
A lot of the work that I do is either directly engaging with the people that we support or with the amazing staff that provide the support to those we are here to serve.
So, it can range from really simple tasks such as going and tightening the bolts on the bed at the Myxa manor because someone is needing assistance, right through to the typical things that come with a leadership role like planning, making decisions around resourcing and just generally supporting the establishment and operations of the services that Myxa offers
What do you love about your role at Myxa
When I made the decision to join the organisation and what I have found in absolute abundance since I started is just an incredible culture, and that’s a word that comes really easily but to kind of put a little bit more detail behind that, it’s an incredibly positive, affirming, generous organisation and culture. It absolutely centres its efforts and energy on the people we support, that is the absolute centre of every decision we make or action we take and there is just a conspicuous passion and enthusiasm with everyone that I have engaged with across the organisation in that time. And even on the difficult days, because they come working in this kind of field, that enthusiasm, that positive culture, really shines through, and in truth that is what I have been looking for in my professional life for a little while now- these are hard organisations to work in at times, the work we do is super important, the stakes are high, and it can be hard work, and often it’s those culture factors that make the difference about getting out of bed each day with a spring in your step and so well what I love about working with Myxa is that it’s easy to find the motivation to get out of bed, get on the road, and get to work with the organisation doing the good stuff it does. So yeah, I feel really fortunate to be a part of the team.
