The Name Behind the Organisation

The word Myxa comes from ancient Greek: it refers to the nozzle of a lamp, the precise point where the flame emerges and light begins.

We chose this name deliberately. For every participant we work with, the goal is the same: to create the right conditions so that skills, confidence, and connection can grow on their own terms.

"Support, at its best, is not the flame itself. It is the structure that makes the flame possible."

Our Founding Story

Built With Intention

Our founding story begins with a clear conviction about what specialist disability support can be at its best, and a decision to build an organisation entirely around delivering that.

From the beginning, Myxa was built on a single conviction: structure and compassion are not competing priorities. Robust systems make personalised support more possible, not less.

Myxa's founder brought two things together. The first was lived experience: supporting a family member with complex needs, and understanding from the inside what that demands.

The second was professional healthcare leadership, developed across hospital and community settings. That background also became the foundation for services such as our Hospital Discharge Program.

Purpose, Mission and Vision

Our Purpose icon

Our Purpose

Everyone deserves the chance to shine. Myxa exists to support participants with complex support needs to live fulfilling lives through personalised, reliable, and respectful support that promotes independence, stability, and genuine choice.
Our Mission icon

Our Mission

To empower participants to achieve their goals and foster a deep sense of accomplishment, capability, and self-worth through support that is both structured and compassionate.
Our Vision icon

Our Vision

To be recognised across Australia as the trusted partner for complex disability support, known for delivering innovative, person-centred services that create lasting stability and meaningful outcomes for participants.

What We Believe

Myxa is guided by three values we call the 3Rs: Reliability, Responsiveness, and Respectfulness. These are not aspirational statements. They are operational commitments that shape how we hire, how we train, and how we deliver support every day.

Reliability icon

Reliability

We do what we say we will do. Participants, families and representatives, and support coordinators can depend on us because we build systems that make follow-through the default, not the exception. When we identify an issue, we address it; when we make a commitment, we keep it. Reliability is not a personality trait we hope to find in our team; it is a standard we build into how we work.
Responsiveness icon

Responsiveness

Complex support needs do not follow a predictable schedule. When circumstances change, when incidents occur, or when a participant's needs shift, we act quickly and communicate clearly. We adjust plans when the situation requires it, and we keep families and representatives informed without waiting to be asked. Responsiveness is what turns good intentions into trustworthy practice.
Respectfulness icon

Respectfulness

Every participant is a person first, with their own preferences, goals, and rights. We involve participants in decisions about their support, honour their autonomy, and treat everyone with the dignity they deserve. Respectfulness is not a posture we adopt with some participants and not others: it is foundational to every interaction we have.

How We Operate

How That Shapes How We Work

Operational Standard

Building Quality Into the System

These values would mean little if they were not built into how Myxa actually operates. The structure of our organisation reflects the commitments above.

Quality at Myxa is designed into daily operations, not left to chance.

Our systems are built from the ground up, informed by the reality of what participants need and what frontline teams experience every day. House Supervisors and Disability Support Workers are not recipients of top-down policy: they are the people our systems are designed to serve and learn from.

Senior management maintains close, direct connection with frontline teams. This is not a cultural aspiration. It is how we stay honest about what is actually happening in our services and what needs to improve.

We grow deliberately. Quality is not a baseline we maintain only while small: it is a standard we protect as we expand. Every new home and every new team member is integrated thoughtfully to maintain the standard that defines Myxa.

Our systems are built to manage complex service delivery challenges. That means every participant benefits from that rigour, whether their support needs are standard or complex.

Who We Support

Specialist Expertise When Complexity Rises

We support participants across the spectrum of need, with specialist expertise when complexity rises.

Many of the participants we work with live with combinations of intellectual disability, psychosocial disability, behaviours of concern, dual diagnosis, forensic histories, or high intensity support needs. Some require regular coordination across health, justice, and community systems. These are presentations Myxa is specifically trained and organised to support.

At the same time, the full range of people we work with is broader than any list of presentations. What is consistent is our approach: we begin with the person, understand what they need, and build the support structure around that.

Whatever the combination of needs, our focus is on creating stability, safety, and a genuine sense of home, so participants can build skills, confidence, and connection over time.
