When MTA Might Be Right for You

MTA provides a safe place to stay when your long-term home is not yet ready.
Common situations include:

Waiting for Permanent Housing

Your SIL vacancy, SDA property, or social housing is confirmed but not yet available. You need somewhere safe while arrangements are finalised.

Home Modifications in Progress

Your home needs accessibility modifications, assistive technology installation, or equipment setup before you can move in safely.

Hospital Discharge

You are medically ready to leave hospital but your community supports or housing are not yet in place. Different eligibility criteria may apply for hospital discharge.

Support Breakdown

When SIL or another living arrangement breaks down, MTA provides safe, stable housing while the participant's confirmed long-term home is being prepared.

Leaving a Justice Setting

You are being released from a justice setting and need transitional accommodation while your long-term disability supports are arranged. Different eligibility criteria may apply.

What Medium Term Accommodation Is (and What It Is Not)

Medium Term Accommodation is NDIS-funded transitional accommodation for participants who cannot move into their long-term home yet because their disability supports are not ready. It is typically funded for up to 90 days as a once-off support and is included as part of your broader home and living support needs.

NDIS Eligibility

Three Criteria

  1. 1You have a confirmed long-term home to move into after your MTA stay.
  2. 2You cannot move into your long-term home yet because your disability supports are not ready.
  3. 3You cannot stay in your current accommodation while you wait.

Note: Eligibility for MTA is determined by the NDIS based on your individual circumstances. If you're unsure whether MTA applies to your situation, speak with your Support Coordinator or contact the NDIS directly.

What MTA Funding Covers

How MTA withMyxa Works

1

Referral and Assessment

Your support coordinator, hospital team, or family contacts Myxa. We confirm capacity quickly and assess whether we can meet your specific needs during the MTA period. If we can proceed, we move to planning. If we cannot, we tell you directly so you can explore other options without delay.

2

Preparation and Move-In

Before you arrive, we gather information from you, your family or representatives, your support coordinator, and any allied health professionals involved. We prepare the environment, match staff to your needs, and develop your Support Plan. Your transition is managed carefully, with the aim of keeping you safe and informed from the start.

3

During Your Stay

You receive 24/7 support under the Myxa Framework: consistent staffing, structured oversight from your House Supervisor and SIL Manager, and support tailored to your needs. During this period, we also collect structured evidence of your support needs, daily routines, and progress, which can inform your next NDIS plan review and long-term support planning.

4

Planning What Comes Next

Transition planning begins early in your stay, not at the end. We work with you, your family or representatives, your support coordinator, and allied health professionals to plan your move to long-term accommodation. This may include moving into a Myxa SIL home, an SDA property, or returning home with appropriate supports in place.

What Sets Myxa MTA Apart

Safe, Supported Transitions

Safe, Supported Transitions

Transitions are where risk is highest, especially for participants with complex needs. Myxa manages the full transition: coordination with hospital teams, support coordinators, families and representatives, and the receiving provider or long-term home. We prepare staff, prepare the environment, and prepare you before anything changes.
The Myxa Framework in Every Stay

The Myxa Framework in Every Stay

A 90-day stay receives the same Myxa Framework as a permanent SIL placement: House Supervisor leadership, SIL Manager oversight, centralised rostering for consistent staff, and after-hours management support. MTA at Myxa is not a reduced version of our SIL service. It is the same standard, applied to a transitional timeframe.

James's Story

James is a participant with an acquired brain injury and complex physical support needs. After a prolonged hospital stay, he was medically ready for discharge but had no suitable accommodation in place. His support coordinator contacted Myxa.

James moved into a Myxa MTA property while his long-term housing was arranged. During his stay, he received 24/7 support under the Myxa Framework, including High Intensity Daily Personal Activities delivered by trained support workers under clinical direction.

Throughout the 90-day period, Myxa's team focused on two things: providing James with safe, stable, consistent support in his transitional home, and working with his support coordinator and allied health team to plan his permanent move.

During the stay, structured evidence was collected about James's actual support needs, daily routines, and the level of assistance he required. This evidence proved valuable: James's initial NDIS plan included SIL funding at a 1:3 support ratio, but the real-world data demonstrated he required a 1:2 ratio. The evidence supported a successful application that reflected his actual needs.

Working with his support coordinator, Myxa identified a suitable SDA property closer to his family. James was successfully matched with another participant for shared living within a High Physical Support home.

Outcome: James transitioned safely from hospital to a stable MTA environment, then moved into permanent accommodation with the right level of support in place. The MTA period gave everyone the time needed to get his long-term arrangements right.
