How SIL with Myxa Works: From Referral to Your New Home

Referral and Initial Contact

Referral and Initial Contact

01
Contact Myxa or have your Support Coordinator make a referral. We discuss your needs, preferences, and NDIS funding to determine if SIL is the right fit. If you are being discharged from hospital, we can work with your hospital team and Support Coordinator through our Hospital Discharge Program.
Comprehensive Transition Process

Comprehensive Transition Process

02
We gather detailed information from you, your family or representatives, previous providers, and allied health professionals. This includes your support history, preferences, routines, health needs, behaviour support plans, and goals. The more we understand before you move in, the better your support will be from day one.

The Myxa Difference in SIL

Support Across the Spectrum of Need

Support Across the Spectrum of Need

01
We provide SIL at both standard and high intensity levels, including High Intensity Daily Personal Activities and Implementing Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports. Our teams are trained to respond when complexity increases, with structured data tracking, incident management, and clinical collaboration with allied health professionals.
The Myxa Framework Creates Consistency

The Myxa Framework Creates Consistency

02
Every Myxa SIL home operates within the Myxa Framework. House Supervisors provide day-to-day leadership. SIL Managers ensure quality oversight. Centralised rostering delivers consistent staffing. After-hours management support is available around the clock. The result: the same standard of support whether it is Monday morning or Saturday night, Melbourne or regional Victoria.
Supporting Specific Needs Within SIL

Supporting Specific Needs Within SIL

03
Our SIL teams have experience supporting participants with a range of specific needs, including young people transitioning from out-of-home care through our Out of Home Youth Program, participants living with dementia or cognitive decline, and participants with autism or ADHD who benefit from sensory-considered environments and tailored support approaches.

SIL at Standard and High Intensity Levels

Standard Intensity SIL

For participants whose support needs do not require specialist high intensity funding. You receive the full Myxa Framework applied to your support: trained and consistent support workers, implementation of your Support Plan, leadership and oversight from your House Supervisor and SIL Manager, and access to after-hours management support.

High Intensity SIL

For participants with NDIS High Intensity Support funding, Myxa has the specialised training, systems, and oversight to deliver:

High Intensity Daily Personal Activities: For participants with significant health conditions requiring specifically trained workers. This includes specialist training in health management procedures, closer collaboration with nurses and allied health professionals, and enhanced monitoring and documentation.

Implementing Intensive and Complex Behaviour Supports: For participants with significant behaviours of concern. This includes implementation of detailed behaviour support strategies, specialist training in Ethical Response, enhanced oversight and incident management, and ongoing collaboration with Behaviour Support Practitioners.

Whether standard or high intensity, all SIL services are delivered through the same Myxa Framework.

SIL vs SDA: Understanding the Difference

These terms are often used together, but they fund different parts of your living arrangement. Understanding the difference makes it easier to plan the right home and the right support.

Funds the support

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

SIL funds the support services you receive at home, not the physical property itself.

  • Assistance with personal support, cooking, cleaning, medication, budgeting, social interaction, and community access.
  • Part of the Core budget in your NDIS plan and used for staff support.
  • Available at standard and high intensity levels depending on your needs.

Example

You live in a Myxa-managed home and receive SIL support for daily routines, personal support, meal preparation, and community participation.

Funds the home

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

SDA funds the housing itself for eligible people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.

  • Purpose-built or modified homes with accessibility features such as ceiling hoists, widened doorways, accessible bathrooms, or assistive technology.
  • Separate funding in your NDIS plan for the physical housing.
  • Requires specific SDA eligibility criteria to be met.

Example

You live in an SDA property with full accessibility features and receive separate SIL funding for daily support provided by the Myxa team.

How SIL and SDA Work Together

In many arrangements, SDA and SIL sit side by side. One funds the accessible home, the other funds the support team that helps you live there safely and well.

SIL and SDA are separate NDIS funding streams with different purposes.

SDA provides the accessible home, while SIL provides the day-to-day support inside it.

Myxa provides SIL support in Myxa-managed homes, Soluna SDA properties, and partner SDA properties.

Your Support Network and Communication

Quality SIL is about how everyone involved in your support works together.

For Families and Representatives

For Families and Representatives

01
We keep you informed, involve you in planning where appropriate, and focus on stability and safety. You receive regular updates as agreed (daily, weekly, or as needed), clear communication about both achievements and challenges, and involvement in Support Plan reviews and decisions.
For Support Coordinators

For Support Coordinators

02
We respond quickly to enquiries, communicate proactively throughout the placement, and work through difficult moments rather than looking for exits. If you have a participant with high intensity needs, behaviours of concern, or who needs a structured transition from hospital, get in touch.
For Allied Health Professionals

For Allied Health Professionals

03
We follow your therapy and behaviour support plans carefully, communicate early when things change, and provide the information you need to review progress. Our staff receive participant-specific training on implementing clinical recommendations, and our SIL Managers maintain ongoing collaboration with allied health teams.

SIL Frequently Asked Questions

Myxa Logo

I would like to acknowledge what a wonderful job Myxa have been doing to support a participant in transition. I have noticed this participant visibly appears better supported when I have seen him in sessions, and he seems so happy about his new home. I had expected a bumpy transition period but instead it has exceeded what I may have hoped for. I have been so impressed with the SIL Manager and support staff during our meetings. It is so refreshing to see a team who really sees the person and not the disability. You have already made such a difference to this participant's quality of life in the short time that he has been with you. Thank you for restoring my faith in service providers, and please know that I would happily recommend you should any of my other participants require supported living.
